Thursday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time (YEAR 2013)

Meditation on Today's Scripture:
The rule of generosity in biblical times required the cooperation of the entire community in entertaining an unexpected or late-night guest. Whether the guest was hungry or not, a meal would be served. In a small village it would be easy to know who had baked bread that day. Bread was essential for a meal because it served as a utensil for dropping and eating from the common dishes. Asking for bread from one's neighbor was both a common incidence and an expected favor. To refuse to give bread would bring shame because it was a sign of hostility. If a neighbor can be compulsory upon and coerced into giving bread in the middle of the night, how much more hospitable is God, who, no matter what the circumstances, is generous and ready to give us what we need. In conclusion Jesus makes a startling claim: How much more will the heavenly Father give! The Lord is ever prepared to give us not only what we need, but more than we can expect. He gives freely of his Holy Spirit that we may share in his life and joy.
Word of the Day...
Proverbs 19:20-21Listen to advice and accept instruction and in the end you will be wise. Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails.
Prayer ...
Almighty God, teach us your ways and help us discern your paths for our life. We have so many plans and schemes, but we know if they are not from you, they will not stand. Lead us to your wisdom and we will not only seek to know it, but also seek to live it by the power supplied by your Holy Spirit. In Infant Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
