Memorial of Saints Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn, Priest, and Paul Chŏng Ha-sang, and Companions, Martyrs (YEAR 2013)

Meditation on Today's Scripture:
During the three years of public ministry Jesus traveled widely. The gospel records that a band of women accompanied Jesus and the twelve apostles. This was a diverse group of women; some came from rich and prominent families; some had been prostitutes, and others had been afflicted with mental and physical ill-health. We know that Mary Magdalene had lived a very troubled life before Jesus freed her from 7 demons. She was privileged to be the first to see Jesus as the risen Lord. As the wife of King Herod's chief financial officer, Joanna was a rich lady of the court. It's unlikely that these two would have ever met under other condition. What brought them together and united them in a bond of friendship, service, and loyalty to Jesus? Certainly Jesus and his message of the kingdom of God had transformed them. Unlike the apostles, who took great pride in being the chosen twelve, these women did not seek place or demand special privileges. Jesus had touched them so deeply that they were grateful to do anything for him, even unskilled service. They brought their gifts and resources to Jesus to use as he saw fit.
Word of the Day...
Joel 2:23 Rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.
Prayer ...
Holy God and tender Father, you are our great delight. When all others fail, you are still God. You are our rock and fortress, you are our tender shepherd, and you are our solid mountain that cannot be shaken or moved. Your blessings and grace shower down upon us and fill us with joy. We can't wait for the day we get to see you face to face and delight in your presence forever. Until then, we will rejoice in anticipation. In Infant Jesus' glorious name we pray. Amen.

1Soon afterward he went on through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God.
