Friday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time (YEAR 2013)

Meditation on Today's Scripture:
Jesus could do not much mighty works in his hometown because the people who were familiar with Jesus were closed-minded and despised his claim to speak and act in the name of God. If people come jointly to hate and refuse to understand others dissimilar than themselves, then they will see no other point of view than their own and they will say no to love and accept others. How do we view those who are familiar to you? With kindness and respect or with a critical and negative spirit? The Lord Jesus offers us freedom from sin, prejudice, disdain, and fear. His love and grace sets us free to love others with the same grace and mercy which he has shown to us. Only Jesus can truly set us free from the worst tyranny possible slavery to sin and the fear of death. His victory on the cross brings us pardon and healing, and the grace to live holy lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Word of the Day...
James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Prayer ...
Heavenly Father, help us to put into practice what we know is your will and your truth today. In the name of Infant Jesus we pray. Amen.

54and coming to his own country he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all this?" 57 And they took offense at him.
