Thursday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time (YEAR 2013)

Galatians 5:1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Prayer ...
God of freedom and grace, please give us your Spirit of wisdom to understand more fully all the ways that you have blessed us. Please help us use those blessings to share your grace with our family and friends. May we never take for granted your gifts or abuse our freedoms won at such great cost. In Infant Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Scripture: Matthew 9:1-8
1And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city. 2 And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven." 3 And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming." 4 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, `Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, `Rise and walk'? 6 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" -- he then said to the paralytic -- "Rise, take up your bed and go home." 7 And he rose and went home. 8 When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
Meditation on Today's Scripture:
We rightfully belong, not to ourselves, but to God who created us and saved us in the precious blood of his Son, our Lord Jesus. Paul the Apostle says that we are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. Do we acknowledge that your life belongs to God and not to ourselves? And do we give to God what rightfully belongs to Him? Lord, because you have made us, we owe you the whole of our love; because you have redeemed us, we owe you the whole of ourselves; because you have promised so much, we owe you all our being. Moreover, we owe you as much more love than ourselves as you are greater than we, for whom you gave yourself and to whom you promised yourself. We pray to you, Lord, make us taste by love what we taste by knowledge; let us know by love what we know by understanding. We owe you more than our whole self, but we have no more, and by ourselves we cannot render the whole of it to you.
