Thursday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Psalm 97:10: Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Prayer ...
Heavenly Father, make our heart pained by the evil in our world. Give us a holy revulsion to things opposed to your will and character. Yet Father, just as you redeemed us by grace, and rescued us while a captive to sin, give us courage to care about those who are in the Evil One's embrace. Through Infant Jesus we pray. Amen.

Scripture: Mark 6:1-6
7And he called to him the twelve, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; 9but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. 10And he said to them, "Where you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. 11And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to hear you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them." 12So they went out and preached that men should repent. 13And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.
Meditation on Today's Scripture:
Jesus gave his apostles together the power and the authority to speak and to act in his name. He with authority told them to do the works which he did to heal. To cast out evil spirits, and to speak the word of God - the good news of the gospel which they established from Jesus. When Jesus spoke of power and authority he did something unheard of. He wedded power and authority with love and humbleness. The "world" and the "flesh" seek power for self-centered gain. Jesus teaches us to use it for the better of our neighbor. Loving Infant Jesus, make us a channel of your grace and healing love that others may discover life and freedom in you. Free us from all other attachments that we may joyfully follow the things of heaven. May we witness the joy of the gospel both in word and deed.
