Wednesday: First Week in Ordinary Time

Galatians 5:16: Live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
Prayer ...
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for your Holy Spirit that lives in us and is now interceding with you for us. Please fill us with your Spirit so that our life more nearly reflects your will and focuses on your concerns. Through Jesus, who poured out your Spirit upon us at our baptism, we pray. Amen.

Scripture: Mark 1:29-39
29And immediately he left the synagogue, and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30Now Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him of her. 31And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her; and she served them. 32That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33And the whole city was gathered together about the door. 34And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. 35And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose and went out to a lonely place, and there he prayed. 36And Simon and those who were with him pursued him, 37and they found him and said to him, "Every one is searching for you." 38And he said to them, "Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out." 39And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.
Meditation on Today's Scripture:
Simon brought Jesus to his home, his mother-in-law was immediately healed because Jesus heard Simon’s prayer. Do we allow Jesus to be the Lord and healer in our individual life, family, and community? Come near to him with expectant faith. God's healing power restores us not only to health but to lively service and care of others. There is no trouble he does not want to help us with and there is no bondage he can't set us free from. Do we take your troubles to him with expectant faith that he will help you? Loving Infant Jesus, you have all power to heal and to deliver from harm. There is neither trouble nor bondage you cannot overcome. Set us free to serve you joyfully and to love and serve others liberally. May nothing hinder us from giving ourselves wholly to you and to your service.
