Fourth Sunday of Advent

Luke 2:11-14: "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
Prayer ...
Heavenly Father, we join our heart and our voice with the angels in praise to your glorious and holy name. Your sacrifice is so profound we are fascinated. You could have chosen any sign to show Jesus to the shepherds, but you chose the manger. Thank you for revealing yourself in such a common place so we could find your sign and come home to you. We pray in +Infant Jesus' name with all our love. Amen.

39In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, 40and she entered the house of Zechari'ah and greeted Elizabeth. 41And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. 45And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord."
Meditation on Today's Scripture:
What is the signifficance of Mary's visit to her cousin Elizabeth previous to the birth of Jesus? When Elizabeth met Mary and acknowledged the Messiah in Mary's womb they were filled with the Holy Spirit and with a joyful expectation of the fulfillment of God's promise to give a Savior. What an amazing wonder for God to fill not only Elizabeth's heart with his Holy Spirit but the baby in her womb as well. John the Baptist, even before the birth of the Messiah, pointed to his coming and leapt for joy in the womb of his mother as the Holy Spirit exposed to him the existence of the King to be born. The Holy Spirit is God's gift to us to facilitate us to know and experience the indwelling presense of God and the power of his kingdom. The Holy Spirit is the way in which God reigns within each one of us. Do we live in the joy and knowledge of God's indwelling presense with us through his Holy Spirit? Loving @Infant Jesus, fill us with your Holy Spirit and give us joy in seeking you more earnestly. Increase our faith in all your promises, our hope in the joy of heaven, and our love for You as we All.
