Tuesday-Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time

Ephesians 1:9-10: He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment - to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.
Prayer ...
Heavenly Father, we know our heart can be deceitful. At times we can even fool ourselves. But when we kneel in your presence and we convicted by your Word, we find ourselves reminded of those areas we have not yet fully submitted to your control and Jesus' lordship. Heavenly Father, please use the Holy Spirit to gently show and convict of our self-deception so that we may be wholly lost in your will. In the name of Infant Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Meditation on Today's Gospel:
Jesus explores the reasons why people make excuses to God's great request to eat bread with him at his banquet table. The first reason allows the claims of one's personal business or work to take priority over God's claim. Do we allow any task or attempt to absorb us so much that it keeps us from the thought of God? The second reason allows our possessions to come before God. Do we allow the media and other distractions to crowd out time for God in daily prayer and devotion? The third reason puts home and family ahead of God. God never intended for our home and relationships to be used selfishly. We serve God best when we request him into our work, our homes, and our personal lives and when we divide our possessions with others. Loving Infant Jesus, you withhold no good thing from us and you lavish us with the treasures of heaven. Help us to look for your kingdom first and to lay aside anything that might obstruct us from doing your will.
