Thursday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Psalm 62:8: Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

Prayer ...
Heavenly Father, today we want to confess to you several things on our heart. Father, we are afraid for others to know that we have sinned and ask your forgiveness for those sins. You alone are our refuge and strength. We trust these confessions with you and ask that you strengthen us by the power of your Holy Spirit to not fall into these same sins again and again. In Infant Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Meditation on Today's Gospel:
The rule of welcome in biblical-times mandatory the cooperation of the entire community in engaging an unexpected or late-night guest. Whether the visitor was hungry or not, a meal would be served. In a small village it would be easy to know who had prepared bread that day. Bread was necessary for a meal because it served as a utensil for tumbling and eating from the common dishes. Asking for bread from one's neighbor was both a familiar occurrence and an anticipated favor. To decline to give bread would bring shame because it was a sign of inhospitality. Heavenly Father, you are compassionate, gracious and kind. May we never doubt your love nor hesitate to seek you with self-assurance in order to obtain the gifts, graces, and daily provision we need to live as your follower and child.
