Meditation on Today's Gospel: (Mattew 17:14-20)
Certainly there are times when each of us disappoint others or dissatisfy ourselves when we suffer some kind of set-back or breakdown. In today’s gospel incident the disciples of Jesus fail to cure an epileptic boy. Jesus' response seems harsh but it is really tempered with love and sympathy. We see at once Jesus' disappointment with the disciples' lack of faith and his concern to meet the need of this anxious boy and his father. With one word of command Jesus rebukes the evil spirit that was source this boy's suffering and tells the spirit to "never enter him again". Jesus explains his disciples that they can "remove mountains" if they have faith in God. The appearance to "remove mountains" was a common Jewish phrase for take away difficulties. A wise teacher who could solve complexities was called a "mountain remover". If we pray with eager faith God will give us the means to conquer difficulties and obstacles. When we meet trials and distress how does we respond? With faith and trust in Lord?
