Tuesday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time

Heavenly Father, thank you for noticing and observing record of the things we've done that are good and pleasing to you. Please assist us to keep doing those things that please you, only better, that you may be satisfied and glorified. In Infant Jesus' name. Amen.

  Today's Readings ... (August 16, 2011)
Tuesday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time
First Reading: Isaiah 56:1,6-7
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 67:2-3,5,6,8
Gospel: Matthew 15:21-28
Meditation on Today's Gospel: (Matthew 15:21-28)
Jesus was not opposite to wealth, nor opposed to the wealthy. Jesus had many friends who were wealthy people. Why is Jesus so careful about wealth? Wealth can formulate us falsely independent. Wealth can also lead us into upsetting desires and selfishness. Look at the example Jesus gave about the wealthy man and his sons who refused to aid the deprived man Lazarus. They also abandoned to serve God. The scriptures give us an inconsistency: we lose what we keep and we gain what we give away. Kindness will be amply repaid, both in this life and in perpetuity. Jesus offers us an unrivaled treasure which no money can buy and no robber can steal. The thing we most set our heart on is our uppermost treasure. Material wealth will fetter us to this earth unless we guard our hearts and set our wealth in God and his everlasting kingdom. Where is our money?
