Saturday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Heavenly Father, Precious and Holy God, help us more carefully guard our speech from things you despise, especially gossip, insult, and innuendo. Thank you Lord for loving us, protecting us. In Infant Jesus' name and by His grace we pray. Amen.
  WORD OF THE DAY ...
Proverbs 15:1: A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
  Today's Readings ... (August 13, 2011)
Saturday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
First Reading: Joshua 24:14-29
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 16:1-2a and 5,7-8,11
Gospel: Matthew 19:13-15
Meditation on Today's Gospel: (Matthew 19:13-15)
The parents who brought their children to Jesus required Jesus to lay his hands upon children. The parents knew of the healing power, both physical and spiritual, which came from Jesus' touch. Jesus, in return, rebuked his disciples for holding back the children from coming. Without any doubt the disciples wanted to protect Jesus from the all nuisance of the noisy children who came around Him. But Jesus pleased in the children and demonstrated that God's love has plenty of room for everyone, as well as children. No one is insignificant to God. He comes to each one of us individually that he might touch them with his healing power and touching Love. Do we show kindness to the youth we meet in our neighborhood, home, and church and do we pray for them that they may grow in the love and wisdom of Jesus?
