Memorial of Saint Bernard, abbot and doctor of the Church

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the day, we find great comfort in knowing that we cannot be in a place or time where you are not. Stir our courage through your Spirit that we could be bolder, by your control and presence, to share the Gospel of Jesus. In Infant Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
  WORD OF THE DAY ...
Psalm 90:2 and 4: Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.

Meditation on Today's Gospel: (Matthew 23:1-12)
Jesus seemed to be caution both his disciples and the religious leaders about the enticement to seek titles and honors to increase one's personal status and admiration by others. Jesus scolds the scribes and Pharisees, the spiritual leaders of the Jews, for their ostentatious practices. In a way they required to be good models of observant Jews. See how well we watch all the ritual rules and directives of our religion! In their misguided enthusiasm for religion they required respect and honor for themselves rather than for God and for his word. They wanted the people to delight them as great teachers and leaders. They, unfortunately, made the put into practice of their faith a burden rather than happiness for the people they were supposed to help.
