Rom 13:6-7: This is why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him. If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that we are free in you and belong to no one and no power. Yet because we want your name to be respected, we will obey the laws of this land according to your will. At the same time, O Lord, we fervently pray that you will heal our land and bring our hearts back to you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Meditation on Today's Gospel: (John 16:23b-28)
Jesus opens his heart and speaks in the simple language: "The Father himself loves you!" How can the disciples be sure of this? Through the bequest of the Holy Spirit, Jesus creates it possible for his disciples to have a fresh relationship with God as their Father. No one would have challenge to call God his Father before this! Because of what Jesus has completed for us in offering his life for our salvation we now have a new rapport as the adopted children of God. Paul the Apostles says that "when we cry, ‘Abba! Father!' it is the Spirit himself attitude spectator with our spirit that we are children of God". Do you pray with self-assurance to our heavenly Father? Jesus frequently taught his disciples by way of figure or parable. Here he speaks not in "figures", but in plain speech. Jesus exposed to them the hidden treasure of the heavenly kingdom and he trained them how to pray to the Father in his name. We can bravely approach God as our Father and ask him for the belongings we need. In love he bids us to sketch near to his throne of grace and compassion. Do you approach the Father with self-assurance in his love and with eager faith in his promise to listen to our prayers?
