  Let us Pray ...
Heavenly Father, Thank you for loving us when no one else could or would. Thank you for surrender the most precious gift of heaven so we could join you there. Of all the gifts we've ever received, yours is the best. We offer this praise in the name of one whose gift has given us life! Amen.

Meditation on Today's Gospel: (Matthew: 1:1-17)
God in his mercy satisfied his promises to Abraham and to David that he would send a redeemer and a King to rule over the house of Israel and to set free them from their enemies. Do you know who your ancestors were, where they came from, and what they passed on from their cohort to the next? Descents are very significant. They give us our roots and help us to appreciate our heritage. Matthew's genealogy of Jesus traces his ancestry from Abraham, the father of God's selected people, through the line of David, King of Israel. Jesus the Messiah is the straight descent of Abraham and David, and the equitable heir to David's throne.
He is the redeemer of the world who saves us from slavery to sin and Satan and makes us citizens of the realm of God. In him we receive acceptance into a royal priesthood and holy nation as children of the living God. Do you distinguish your spiritual family tree and do you accept God as your Father and Jesus as the supreme ruler and Lord of your life? When Jacob sanctified his sons he foretold that Judah would receive the assurance of crowned heads which we see fulfilled in David. We can also see in this blessing prophesy of God's fulfillment in raising up his anointed King, Jesus the Messiah. Jesus is the fulfillment of all God's guarantee. He is the hope not only for the people of the Old Covenant and for all nations as well.
